The General Data Protection Regulation

The General Data Protection Regulation

Today I would like to explain a little bit about new European Union regulation on data protection and privacy. This topic does not change much in the game so it might not be that important for you to fully understand it but if you read following article it will not be just a waste of a time.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU and EEA. The GDPR aims primarily to give control to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.

So how this affect our game?

First what kind of personal data do we collect and how we use it?
1. Most important one is your e-mail address. Actually it is real personal data only if you use email which identifies you as a person so for example if you have your full name in it. But in any case this information is well protected in our database. We need this information to minimize possibility of people creating more acocunts, which certainly protects the fair game for all of you. We only use this information to send confirmation email and WE DO NOT USE IT TO SEND YOU SPAMS. We also do not provide this information to any other company. That email can be also used to tranfer you account to our other games in the future when we will create another one. And also there is a plan that we will send e-mail notifications, but only those you would check for in the settings.

2. Username is a personal information if it identifies somebody as person. For example frantisekdebnar would be personal information because it consists of my first and last name, but if I use username like TheDoctor, then it would not be personal information (maybe if I am real Valentino Rossi then it might be considered personal data because The Doctor is his trademark). So if you created your account through Facebook, you were automatically offered to create username which consists of your first and last name to make registration quicker for you, but you could have change it during registration process. This username is visible to everybody in the game so you know exactly how it is used. We don`t provide it to anybody else, but obviously anybodu who is registered in the game can see it.

3. IP and cookies are not personal information in most cases, because they usually do not identify person. We use this information to detect multiplaying and cheaters so it protects integrity and fairness of the game. We do not provide this information to anybody.

4. First name, last name and sex are personal information we receive if you use facebook login. We do store this information in our DB but we don`t provite it to anybody else. Sex is important for us for marketing reasons so we might be able to improve the game to make it attractive to female players too. We also recive your name if you make payment through PayPal.

What is our responsibility regarting the regulation?
Regulation basically sets 3 important requirements:
- Informed Users - we have to inform users what kind of data we collect and how do we use it - I believe I explained well in previous part of article.
- Right to Know - users have right to request us for detailed information what data we have about them - so you can send an email to address support@myracingcareer.com and request this in english. Please do not do it unless it is really neccessary. Nobody else (no other admin) except me will have right to check your personal data, if I have to respond to hundreds of your requests then we can forget about any future improvement of the game.
- Delete Information - users can request us to delete all the personal data we have about you or annonymize it - currently you can change your username for coins fee, but if you request to change your username because it shows personal data and you want to change it, send an e-mail to support@myracingcareer.com and we will find a solution.
If you want to delete all your personal data from our game including your email, it will automatically result into account deletion. Actually we will not delete the account, we will annonymize the data. That means we will change username to something like user_XXX (where XXX is number), we will change e-mail to XXX@email.com. We will not delete your IP logs just in case police will contact us to provide information about some law violations. Altough username and email will be annonymyzed at that time already so there will be only information that somebody from IP broke laws. We will store IP logs for 3 months only. We will completelly delete your name and sex from database.

What we had to do?
Because of these changes we had to modify our privacy policy, but there were only minor changes because we already had these things well described before.

So at the end I hope you know all you need about your personal data protection in our game. ANd hopefully you all are ok with that :)
