Atelsek, Jarbas, Morgan and Vaara decide for a 3 stops strategy while Thomazini for 2 stops.
At the start a very aggressive Thomazini overtakes Morgan, Atelsek tries to run away and creates a gap of 3 seconds on Jarbas. At the second stop the event that decides the race: Jarbas postpones the stop of one lap and come back on the track in front of Atelsek. Morgan, stopped at the beginning of the race by Thomazini, try to recover on his very fast Red Bull.
In lap 46 Vaara overtakes Thomazini that one lap later retires its car for a technical problem.
In the final laps Atelsek and Morgan push very hard on Jarbas trying to catch the first position. Jarbas damages his car at 2 laps from the end and everything seems to be lost for him… but the Portuguese rookie demostrates to be a fighter and is able to keep the position and to take the first victory for the new Ferrari team. Atelsek is second, Morgan third and Vaara fourth.
"It was an exiting race" said the Ferrari CEO Max Del Ragno "Porche and Red Bull were formidable competitors but we were able to take the victory even with some errors. Jarbas is working very well with the team, he deserved this result. Vaara is also doing a fantastic job, I'm very satisfied by the performance of our drivers".
Obout the competitors Max Del Ragno added:"This is probably the best Campionship I have ever seen from a technical point of view, Red Bull and Penske have confirmed theirselves as top teams and Porche has done an impressive improvement of their car. There are also other teams that are doing very well..."
And Ferrari? "Our car is fast and reliable, we feel very confident in race configuration, we must work to take other wins".
