The Start of the End
As Owen Wilson famously said: "Wow..."
That's all that can be said of British Indy driver Mack Zaggro this season... But not in the same positive manner that many would suggest of this once rookie sensation... Oh no... Instead at the sheer disbelief and exasperation in the #23 NOVA garage.
Zaggro has not been shy about advertising his intentions to retire at the close of next season. But there was a slither of hope that he would hang around and see out a fierce ranking battle with 26 year old British Moto rider (and all round nice guy) Paul Wigzey... But I think it's comfortably time to sack that particular contest off, as Mack enjoyed yet another walk of shame today at Detroit, as his Honda engine let go midway through the Grand Prix, doubling up on his misery at the Indy 500 last time out, as the 31 year old got a little too friendly with Indianapolis' infamous walls. A run of form that has seen the three-time Indy race winner with a points tally too low to mention, and a staggering -650 rank gap to Wigzey, with further losses yet to be calculated.
Mack will see out the season with relative interest, as now both his Indy charge and his UK#1 charge have come to an abrupt conclusion.
Roll on Season 36, where Zaggro intends to attempt to leave the sport on a high (and on full aggression) and shatter as many Indy lap records as possible.
