Promising Driver Forced To Retire
After early signs had the 20-year old Herluin Azem slated for big things, an incident at the Lucas Oil Raceway has forced the young driver into a premature retirement.
Azem crashed hard into an outer wall of the oval during the first half of the race. The crash shattered both of the driver's legs, and he had to be airlifted to hospital shortly thereafter. The driver has since announced via social media that he will no longer be a racer, and will instead be falling back to a job in the Azem family's various financial businesses once he has recovered.
All is not lost for the Azem family's future in racing, however, as younger brother Edmund Azem has responded to the tragedy by moving out of the karting circuit and into F3 racing. Edmund intends to finish his brother's commitments on the independent race circuit, before entering into an F3 series as soon as possible.
