Texas Fold'em

Indy Series, Round 9, and Texas Motor Speedway is not fooling around!

If any driver was riding high having not experienced a DNF so far this season in Indy, you can probably kiss that record goodbye after Wednesdays race at Texas... If it can even be classified as a race...

With almost exactly 33% of the race spent behind the Safety Car, under caution a staggering 14 times, it was a meagre 13 cars that saw the chequer, as the Motor Speedway claimed no less than 20 drivers over the 248 lap marathon! In fact, in a phenomenal twist, even reigning champion and series leader Dexter Morgan fell foul on this occasion, though his series lead remains intact - and by a decent margin - over second place Mack Zaggro on account of his ever present consistency and race-winning ability.

In fact, it was a career race to behold for the British driver, who, after starting P8 and committing to his now synonymous aggressive strategy, lead the field home to claim maximum points, taking a huge chunk out of Morgans lead, pulling a slight gap to Finnish #1 driver Vatanen in P3, and proving to all that his debut win in Indy earlier this season was no flash-in-the-pan as he chalks up win number 2.

Furthermore, Texas proved to be another nod to Indy's feeder series, as for the second time this season we had a fierce fight for the lead of the race between long-time rivals Mack Zaggro and American Bo Darville, who as you may recall, topped the Season 32 Indy Junior standings, separated by just a single point at season's end as Darville took the crown. The pair were mostly unable to duke it out last season as Bo suffered a careers worth of misfortune in a single season, but it's always good to see feeder series rivalries spill over into the big time.

Despite looking like another fore-gone conclusion for the crown, Zaggro's pursuit of silverware took a big step in the right direction as the battle for best-of-the-rest heats up!
