Superb Formula - 7-Way Title Fight?
It's been a mighty season over in Superb Formula! Asias highest rated series has put on an absolute show this season, with unexpected winners, wheel to wheel racing and no less than seven different drivers taking the top step in the opening ten races! That all calculates to just 30 points separating the Top 7 drivers in the championship, three of which share the exact same points tally in the current fight for 4th.
One surprise package is none other than British driver Mack Zaggro, who came into the series ranked a lowly 11th in the driver ratings, and many (including his own manager) anticipated another lackluster season as the 25 year old has struggled to find his feet in the mid-tier series over the previous two seasons. But the Englishman and his fresh, fuschia pink NOVA chassis have absolutely arrived this season, and as of today's race in Malaysia, is one of only three drivers in the field to record more than one race win this season.
After a rocky start, amassing a mediocre haul of points, Zaggro upped his game tenfold with a string of front row qualifications, mere hundredths off of his ever elusive first career pole in the series. One such occasion proving significant when the series arrived in Korea, just a week after his first series podium, Mack was able to go one (or two) steps better, overtaking regular pole sitter Strayk into the heavy braking zone of turn 3, and hold off a one second gap until the flag. But perhaps more significantly, and once again after overtaking Strayk having lined up together on the front row once more, Zaggro managed to keep championship favourites Bianucci and DeCesaris behind him to see his second chequered flag in Superb Formula, at today's race at Sepang
The second half of this season promises to be a real hard fought contest!
