Formula 1: Proposal for New Tyre Rules
When DebiK decided to limit the amount of tyres in 911 Supercup Series so it would emulate reality better, it got me thinking on how better Formula 1 experience in MRC. In MRC Formula 1 we are limited to 8 sets of slick tyres, when in reality they have 13.
For me one of the biggest drawbacks in MRC Formula 1 is the qualifying format. At the moment we are only limited to 1 attempt per qualifying session. This is why qualifications are often decided by pure luck, random, or whatever you want to call that. In my opinion qualifications should reflect driver’s and car’s pace. With expansion of available tyres sets we could remedy that…
In my proposal each driver would be able to use 13 sets of slick tyres for every race weekend:
- In free practice drivers would be able to use 4 sets of slick tyres (2x Hard and 2x Medium). Those tyres would be given back after the free practice, so you wouldn’t be able to use them in qualification or race.
- For the rest of the weekend (qualifications, warm up and race) driver could chose from 8 sets of slick tyres (2x Hard, 3x Medium and 2x Soft).
- If a driver advances in Q3 he gets 2 sets of Ultra Soft tyres that can be only used in this session.
With tyre rules changed we would also see a change in qualification format as drivers would be able to have 2 attempts per session.
I would also introduce a rule where drivers who make it through to Q3 must start the race on the tyres with which they set their fastest time in Q2.
If possible, I would also eliminate Warm Ups.
