Interview with Vanderpuije in the Formula 3 Africa Series
At the half way point to the season, we take a look at how Dante Vanderpuije has been doing in the F3 Africa Series.
Q: First of all you used to go by Imperius, you're now called Dante. What inspired the change?
Dante Vanderpuije: Well, I decided I'd use my first name instead of my middle name, only because it's easier for people to remember and of course it's a lot simpler!
Q: Next stop is Bulawayo, how do you and your team expect to perform there?
DV: Well, hopefully we land a couple wins! Pole is always fantastic, but the race is what matters. I know I can get it done during the races. I've got some experience round that track so that should be very helpful as well.
Q: You've had a solid first half to your season, what are your goals for the second half?
DV: Yeh, it's been good. Obviously the goal is still to win the series and I think it'll go all the way down to the last race. I've made some silly mistakes in a couple races, cost me a win and a podium finish, so I want to stay as consistent as possible and get to the finish line as often as possible. Personally I want to aim for 6 wins at least by the end of this season. That is a goal I've set for myself. I haven't won more than 4 in a series and I want to beat my current best.
Q: How are you stacking up against the competition this season?
DV: I've got fantastic competition from Pirro and Speed, they've made it very hard for me! Razingar was also very quick earlier, his form has dropped a little but he's still fourth in the standings. It was a little bit harder racing against Proscuitton and Muzzio in last season's Rookie series, but these guys in the F3 Africa series are very fast, no doubt!
Q: So what are your plans for your career next season?
DV: Currently the plan is to compete in a Formula 2 series. It's the most appealing option for me right now. I'm improving my racecraft a lot and this season will give me some very valuable experience. I'm sure I'll be up to the challenge of Formula 2 next season, and I'll also have the funds to compete as well! [Laughs]
