Press Releases - Another season, another review

Another season, another review

As normal, we look at how the season has unfolded for R.Headington.

S13 F2 Oceania Series

After last Season, I set myself up to try and win the title. I knew Milo would be a hard driver to beat and thought that Reid would also put a fight up on home soil after finishing 3rd in the F2 North America Series in Season 12.

It started well, wining half of the first 6 races and only once being off the top step of the podium (and that was 4th). I had amassed a 45 point lead over 2nd, but that driver was a surprise. I knew Rengards was a good young driver, but I didn't expect him to be my closest challenger. This was mainly down to his consistency and Milo's two retirements. Reid seemed to be offering no challenge at this point, a distant 7th.

Milo's inconsistency continued as he won the next two races followed by getting 14 points in the next two. This took him ahead of Rengards. But with me picking up two wins and two 2nd places, I had a massive 74 point lead after the first 10 races.

The pattern continued. The only real difference was that I took off the small amount of risk that I had, making me slower, so Milo was able to make most of his good races wins. In the end I was able to take the title by 63 points.

I'm delighted with this result. I thought I could win the title, but I expected it to be close. This has pushed me into the top 50 in the rankings and puts me in a really good place for the coming seasons.

S13 National cup

This was the first season of the national cup and I have enjoyed being able to take part. The UK team finished 13th in the standings, just holding off Austria. A full report will follow in another press release.

Custom series

These have been disappointing. Although I was able to win a trophy in each of the five custom series I took part in, I was unable to win any of them. So my hunt for my first custom series win is still ongoing.

General

My stats have improve again, with a record number of wins, podiums and top 5 finishes. I have been able to gather more data about tracks which should help me for the future.

Next year

I flirted with joining the World Touring Car Series. However, I felt I would probably finish 3rd, which would boost my rating but lower my end of season prize money. So on balance, I decided to try and retain my F2 Oceania Series title. As my decision only makes sense if I am able to retain my title, that is the only thing I will deem acceptable for next season.

Other than that; I want to continue where I left off last season, consolidate my place in the top 50 (possibly getting into the top 40) and continue getting more track data to help me in the future.
