McCoy takes F3 debut season title in Latvia!
It was a memorable season for Leonard McCoy as he took 1st place in his F3 national series debut season. The Latvian F3 series was a tightly fought series right the way through but McCoy sealed the series win 1 race from the end with a points finish that made it mathematically impossible for anyone to catch him.
McCoy picked up 7 wins with a further 6 podium finishes that contributed massively to the accumulated points tally of 770 points he achieved.
With any title win, McCoy was afforded some luck when Starr DNF'd in the penultimate round in the sprint race at Nemuno Žiedas which ultimately handed the initiative to McCoy for the remainder of the series. Both drivers DNF'd in the following feature race which meant all McCoy had to do was keep his car on the track in the last 2 races of the series.
A third place finish at Biķernieki handed him the title and set McCoy up for the final series race which he won in fine fashion just ahead of a strong-finishing Jon Starr.
Both drivers have a lot of potential and may one day duel again. McCoy would like to thank Starr for a very close fight right to the end!
McCoy is currently uncertain exactly where next season will take him as he weighs up his options.
The training schedule manager Emerald has keyed in for him for next season will likely not enhance his pace, but it should set him up for the future nicely.
