Press Releases - Another hard week for Jones
Another hard week for Jones
The newly named 2KF1 Racing squad of Alan Jones (Oceania F2) and Allan Moffat (Australian F3) have a week of highs and lows, in no particular order.
Alan Jones again showed good speed in his F3 custom series, with results giving him 2nd currently in the championship. Yet he was unable to take advantage of a strong 4th place in the first F2 race of the week, racking up a 3rd DNF in the second, taking his tally to 1 finish from 4 F2 races.
The result leaves Jones, S1 Australian champion, a whopping 61 points from Number 1 Australian driver Damen Hill. Although it is nowhere near over, manager FlyingFinn can see it will not be easy at all.
FlyingFinn: "Well this result, it really buries us. We have one good finish to our name, and 3 races which could have given us results as well. We have a fastest lap to our name and everything, the speed is there."
Meanwhile, on the other side of the garage.
Allan Moffat is celebrating a strong week, although the promising young driver could still have done better.
Moffat survived the punishing Surfers Paradise street circuit. In 4 races over 2 seasons in this category, it has seen a whopping 34 cars retire from the race and 2 races finishing under safety car intervention. With a average of 8.5 cars retiring per race, the track was under pressure to perform! It could only muster up 9 across both races, but instead saw a lot of big mistakes made by drivers. Moffat drove well to a podium in the first race, but a late mistake after the safety car saw him lose a possible win and instead pick up 5th.
2KF1 Racers Alan Jones and Allan Moffat are 11th (12 points, 61 behind leader) and 1st (68 points, leads by 3) in their respective championships.
Strong start for Moffat
It's only his first Aussie F3 series but Allan Moffat has proven to be a competitive driver in the first races of the season. So far, Allan has quallified and finished in the Top 5 of every race so far, but with some fierce comeptition out there, ...
