A1 Racing Revives... The Revolutionary War?
Following the announcements of the National Association Presidents, it didn't take long for international communications to begin firing across seas, over borders, and through boundaries. One of the most intriguing features of A1 is the public statements of rivalry between nations.
There were some expected rivalries, Slovakia/Czech Republic, Sweden/Denmark, and France/Italy. As well, there were a couple oddballs, such as Ukraine/Switzerland and Russia/Portugal. But the most interesting of publicly announced rivalries is perhaps Great Britain and the United States. The two have collaborated in good health through Rage Motorsports for several seasons, but today the nations announced themselves primary rivals.
Association presidents, Nwheel and Adamski, met this morning presumably to discuss some form of collaboration. The press was surprised by the announcement that followed the meeting. American press was greeted by Nwheel, who had this to say:
"We've gained a lot of knowledge from each other in the past few seasons. Managers like thedonz and Wresden have been helpful to me personally, as well as several of my American teammates and friends. Rage will continue to operate as a unit in F3 and F2 racing, but we've agreed that it's time we test each other as nations. On the A1 circuit we will not share strategy with each other, but rather we will aim to best each other.
Adamski and I have agreed that this is the best course of action for the sport in our nations, as the healthy nature of our relationship will give the drivers motivation to drive against each other purely with skill and ability, leaving brute force to the rivalries rooted in hate. Both nations have plenty of room for growth at this level, particularly ours, and I think we'll find this is the first step towards competing with the great powerhouses at the top of this sport."
So, maybe not a rekindling of The Revolutionary War, but a rivalry whose core is based on improving both competing nations. The Red, White, and Blue, vs. the Red, White, and Blue will be fun to watch in Season 13.
