A mixed weekend for Jones

After the heartbreak last round, Alan Jones came to Symmons Plains with a job: take back the top step of the podium. Quickly, the short 7-turn track had taken its first victim.
Jones was able to take the sprint race, after main championship rivals Lynette Watkins and Mick Sheahan both retired, while Nick Anastasiou retired too, leaving Jones by himself.
The feature race was tipped to be similar, and again retirements were everywhere. Jones made 2 big mistakes within 6 laps of each other at the Turn 4 hairpin, but a combination of determined driving and sheer luck saw Jones pit while the leader retired. Jones was beginning the second stint when he retired just 2 laps later, his first DNF and non-points score since the Surfers Paradise Sprint Race.

Manager FlyingFinn:
"A good weekend for us, at the end. We got a win, which is always good, and although we retired in the Feature race we lost no points to our main competitors and move closer to the championship.
We will just have to move on, work on the car and ourselves, and take the next round."

The next round will be on the Homebush Circuit in Sydney, a tricky street circuit that bites back hard.
