Toronto Proves Too Much

Round 2 of F2: North America, Toronto Street Circuit. Status Quo resumes with in-form Grosjean Jr starting Sundays feature race from the front ahead of home favourite Monty Semprini with British hopeful Ray Striver starting 5th.

It hasn't been good for Ray with an unusual lack of pace in the season opener in Mexico and Canada proved no better.
Just a few laps in and series newcomer Novikov makes a significant error, dropping into the clutches of Striver who looked to overtake immediately, but two does not go into one and Striver emerges from the scuffle with nearly 40% damage while Novikov races on unharmed to an eventual 3rd place.

Things briefly looked up for Ray as, despite a damage induced lack of speed, he took 4th from Malcolm Reid before Grosjean Jr retired from the lead promoting Ray to 3rd. 2nd was next up as pit stops played out, and Semprini raced away into an inherited lead with the struggling Brit burdened with damage. After valiantly defending 2nd place from the chasing pack the damage to Strivers car proved influential in his demise as the car drifted from the track and into an unrecoverable accident, resulting in his first DNF in 24 races in F2.

Canadian Semprini continued on to win in an impressive early season show of pace.

Hopefully a good showing in the next round will repair some of the damage done by Toronto's unforgiving circuit.
