Tesla Fan Championship - Season 2 Review

The 2nd edition of the Tesla Fan Championship ended last week with a first title for Nádia Portocarrero! It wasn’t an easy win though, up until race 7 Johnny da Costa III was having a dream run with 3 wins out of 7 races and a 20 point advantage over Nádia but then came 2 very bad races for Johnny that turned the championship around in favour of Nádia who won 2 of the final 3 races, the final gap 78 points between these drivers.

Bartolomeu Jarbas actually started the championship in great form by winning the first 2 races but things took a turn for the worse after that and Jarbas wasn’t able to win after that, only 2 podiums along with some less than perfect results which allowed other drivers to challenge for this final podium spot. Daniel da Silva Dias came very close, finishing just 3 points behind and in the process winning his first Tesla-FC race! Manuel Vicente seemed to have 3rd place under control by race 8 but the final 2 races were a complete nightmare which dropped him into 5th place, it was still an impressive season for Vicente who took 3 poles, more than any other driver!

It wasn’t quite the season for Vasco Guerra, he did very well to conquer 2 poles but a few retirements meant he could do no better than 6th place even having to defend that position against Mefodiy Sobolev who was the best U25 driver and stepped on the podium for the first time in his career. Bruno Dacosta finished in 8th place just 1 point ahead of Maurício Cruz in 9th place and finally Jamie Thom closed the top 10.

Now with 2 seasons in the history book, Nádia Portocarrero has taken the lead in all-time points 845, most podiums (15), top 5 (19), poles (7), she has a joint lead in fastest laps (6) and titles (1). Johnny da Costa III fights back with most wins (7), a clean sheet of top 10 finishes (20) and joint lead in fastest laps (6) and titles (1).

In Under-23 it was a much more straight-forward championship, Cameron McPherson wins the title with a very regular start of the season and then complete dominance after race#4, he won 5 out of 6 races after that! Felipe Campolargo did very well to finish in 2nd place as an 18 year old rookie, he won a single race but finished 7 times on the podium, 1 more than Tomás Góis Rocha who finished in 3rd with 2 wins. Visvaldis Cels finished next up in 4th place with 1 win just like Kike Terol in 5th place. Next up was Miguel Pedro closely followed by João Che Pereira in 7th. Finally Miguel de Monteiro, Huguinho Silva and Luke Duncan close the top 10.

Naturally Cameron McPherson takes a dominant lead in the Under-23 Hall of Fame and with 3 more seasons as an Under-23, we can expect him to leave his mark! Cameron leads with 836 points in 2 seasons, 17 podiums, 17 top 5, 20 top 10 as well as 1 title. Alexandre Campolargo maintains the record for most wins (7), poles (8) and fastest laps (10) as well as joint lead for titles (1). Cameron McPherson, Visvaldis Cels and Miguel Pedro have the joint lead in top 10 finishes, 20 each.

Tesla Racing Team competitions will continue soon with the Tesla Super Cup while the Fan Championship will be back around the mid-point of next season!
