Zaggro Caps The Season

It's been a career season already for 22 year old Mack Zaggro, who celebrated his birthday this week with a monumental showing in his final race for GB at Nations Junior level.

The youngster pipped his rivals to the post, to take his F3 Regional Series Championship by a single point at the close of last week, and has focussed solely on his final round of Nations this week in Greece.
Qualifying 3rd, an agonising 0.066 off pole, the Brit adopted a somewhat conservative approach to Race 1. Dropping to 5th where he would start Race 2...

Final race of the week, final race of the season, and final race of Nations Junior? What's left to do but crank every conceivable parameter to 100 and see what you come out with! Presuming a bag of carbon fibre parts and an early check in to the local hotel after a few short laps... But Zaggro made quick work of capitalising on contact ahead of him in the first few laps, dispatching P4 and P3 before lap 5, and the ensuing Safety Car. But Zaggro was in full Ricciardo! Sending any and all overtakes at the leaders, and in just a few laps, found himself at the head of the field!

A quarter of the way in to a 44 lap race, Mack settled into a rhythm of "keep your foot planted" and presumed before long he'd likely park up in a knackered car or explore the outer limits of the road... But no... Just a handful of minor errors, no major mistakes, a car that stuck it out and an empty road in front and behind as Zaggro ticked the final box on his "To do" list and romped to a Nations Cup win! A mammoth 37 seconds clear of his nearest rivals...

Evidently the mental prowess that the youngster has trained relentlessly has come good, and it remains to be seen if he will look to apply similar aggressive strategies in next season's F3 Asia Series.

Tallying enough to see himself finish respectably in the Nation's standing, it was only veteran British legends Jackson Storm, and Mack's NOVA team-mate Paul Dover who finished ahead of him for GB in this year's Nations Cup. It's out of his hands now to see how long he will wait for a call up to a senior drive...
