STERLING CHIGLEY BEGINS JOURNEY TOWARD FORMULA 1 WITH AMBITIONS OF RISING THROUGH THE RANKS
Charlotte, North Carolina — October 21, 2026
American driver Sterling Chigley begins his pursuit of the highest level of motorsport, building his career from Formula 4 with one goal in mind: reaching Formula 1.
Sterling Chigley has officially begun what promises to be a long and challenging journey through the world of professional single-seater racing. Starting in Formula 4, Chigley is taking the first steps toward a long-term ambition of reaching Formula 1 and competing against the best drivers in the world.
The road to Formula 1 is famously difficult. Thousands of drivers dream about reaching the grid, but only a select few make it all the way through the junior categories. For Chigley, the challenge is not simply about reaching the next championship. It is about developing as a complete racing driver at every stage of his career.
Beginning in F4 gives Chigley an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of professional single-seater racing while gaining experience with race strategy, qualifying, tire management, overtaking, defensive driving, setup development and the pressure of competing against other ambitious drivers.
His ultimate destination is clear.
Formula 1.
But before that dream can become reality, there is a long road ahead.
THE BEGINNING OF THE JOURNEY
Every Formula 1 career begins somewhere.
For Chigley, that starting point is Formula 4.
F4 represents one of the most important steps for young drivers attempting to establish themselves in single-seater racing. It is where drivers begin transitioning from karting and lower-level competition into the more demanding world of professional formula racing.
The cars are faster, the races are more competitive, and small mistakes can have major consequences.
For Chigley, this first chapter is about building a foundation.
Rather than looking too far ahead, the focus is on becoming better every time the car leaves the garage.
Every practice session provides information.
Every qualifying lap provides another lesson.
Every race creates another opportunity to improve.
Every mistake becomes something to learn from.
That philosophy will remain important throughout Chigley's career.
A LONG-TERM GOAL: FORMULA 1
The goal is not hidden.
Sterling Chigley wants to reach Formula 1.
The journey toward the pinnacle of motorsport typically requires success across multiple levels of competition. Drivers must prove themselves repeatedly, moving through increasingly competitive championships while demonstrating speed, consistency, racecraft and the ability to perform under pressure.
For Chigley, the planned path begins with F4 before progressing toward higher categories such as Formula 3 and Formula 2.
Each level presents a new challenge.
F4 is about establishing the foundation.
The next levels will demand greater consistency, stronger racecraft and the ability to adapt quickly.
Eventually, Formula 2 represents the final major step before Formula 1.
The objective is therefore not simply to win one championship.
The objective is to build a career.
THE F4 CHAPTER
Chigley's current career is centered around Formula 4, where the first major lessons of his single-seater career are being learned.
F4 is an environment where drivers must balance aggression with patience.
A driver needs to know when to attack.
They need to know when to defend.
They need to understand tire management.
They need to manage their pace over an entire race rather than focusing on a single fast lap.
They also need to understand that a championship is won over many races, not one spectacular result.
That mentality will be critical as Chigley continues developing.
The early stages of the career are not about expecting perfection.
They are about progress.
A driver who improves every race is building something far more valuable than a single good result.
They are building experience.
LEARNING THE ART OF RACING
One of the biggest challenges facing any young driver is learning that being fast is only one part of racing.
A successful driver needs much more.
They need awareness.
They need discipline.
They need racecraft.
They need technical understanding.
They need consistency.
And perhaps most importantly, they need the ability to recover from a difficult weekend.
A perfect racing career does not exist.
There will be qualifying sessions that do not go according to plan.
There will be races where strategy does not work.
There will be mistakes.
There will be mechanical problems.
There will be weekends where the result does not reflect the driver's potential.
The difference between a driver who gives up and a driver who continues toward the top is what happens afterward.
Chigley's approach is to use every difficult weekend as another opportunity to learn.
FROM F4 TO THE NEXT LEVEL
The next major objective will eventually
