Rookie driver Crouch remaining optimistic despite disappointing finishes, harsh criticism
Driver Grant Crouch has had some very disappointing finishes to start his racing career.
However, Crouch remains optimistic that these finishes will translate to stronger finishes in the future.
Crouch has raced in four races so far in his career, but he has been unable to finish better than 15th in those races, including 2 DNFs. He has been unable to overtake his opponents while being easily overtaken on the track. This has resulted in a measly .572 overtake/overtaken ratio.
"I feel like I haven't raced to the best of my abilities" Crouch said.
However, Crouch set the fastest lap time in one of his four races and at his last race at Pannonia, he was overtaken only three times while overtaking six cars.
"My last race gave me a sense of hope that I can become a great driver one day" Crouch said. He also said that he felt like the more experience he gains, the better he will get.
However, the press has been critical of the 18-year old's performance to date. Main criticisms include how he has become too passive in overtaking situations and how he needs to cut down on the many mistakes he is making.
"They (the media) don't seem to realize that I'm 18 years old" Crouch said. Crouch feels that over time, his abilities will improve "especially since I'm at a young age".
Many of us would like to believe that the greatest drivers, such as the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, and Lewis Hamilton were made great overnight.
Grant Crouch reminds us that the process of becoming a great driver takes many more years than anyone realizes.
