Pressmeddelanden - Jamaican Crash Test Dummies F1 Team open their gates

Jamaican Crash Test Dummies F1 Team open their gates

When we think of Jamaica we think of Bob Marley, Usain Bolt or maybe the bobsleigh team and Cool Runnings. But did you know that they got a Formula 1 team? We payed them a visit at their new headquarters.

Engines roar as we meet Peter Koenig, one of the owners of Crash Test Dummies F1 and manager of Indy Series pilot Fredo di Caro. He greets us with a big smile and apologizes for the construction work that is still going on: “We are still working at our facilities, but everything should be ready in a few weeks”, he tells us. But no need to apologize, if it wasn’t for the sunny weather or the light smell of mariuhana in the air, these facilities could easily be mistaken for McLaren’s in Woking. They even build their own test track.

We had to ask Mr Koenig why they chose Jamaica as the location for their F1 team. He tells us that he and his four co-owners are coming from rather rainy countries and they just wanted to work at a place where they could enjoy the sunny weather. And they found great conditions for their new F1 team near Kingston in Jamaica. So it might be more than just clever marketing, especially in a F1 world, that is not that Europe-centred as it once was.

What’s still missing from the picture are the drivers for next season. Until now Crash Test Dummies has no drivers signed but we are told that they are talking to a few talented drivers and we should wait a few weeks longer until their pilots will be revealed. Koenig is looking for young drivers with good personal skills and welcomes drivers who think they have what it takes to drive in Formula 1 to just talk to him or his co-owners, as nothing is decided yet.

So what are their goals for Formula 1? Crash Test Dummies have a rather small budget compared to some other teams, Koenig explains. “So we have to work harder and make fewer mistakes than our competitors. Our goal is to collect points regularly, we’ll see how it works out.”
