The state or Mercedes!
I have been debating what to write both fans and shareholders about the state of Mercedes in season 42. The most obvious thing to talk about in first season of new engine rules is the Engine.
We took the lowest engine the Judd and installed it this season. It was actually 2% less qaulty then the 41 engine. Our power and acellerate show this. Yet our results gave us a rise close enough we might just earn a point this season. Solidifying Mercedes in top 10 in constructer series.
The car is qaulifying in mid pack area. This is great news for everyone thats a fan or shareholder.
The most interesting part of all this. I must admit we have the weakest staff in all of F1. We also have the greatest red ink at the same time. The staff was that weak when i took over. Only thing that has changed is amount of staff we carry.. We now have 3 development teams instead of 2 and can actually build a Chassis and keep 3 instead of one.
Now when will our staff be competitive with the other teams. A very longtime I estimate 6 to 8 seasons. So we chose to not build and engine at all bear the costs of whatever the supplier engines are and learn how to build an F1 Car!
When will Mercedes Build their own engine? We are shooting for the next engine cycle. In truth that is likely 4 seasons from now. But in reality a little longer then that. The only true reason to build an engine is to Save money! If new rules changes on buying an engine from another team works out.. Where Mercedes save money ourselves and not over funds the builder of the engine. We would take that route.. But if game says 6-8 mil to a team per season forget it. I would rather build 85% engine ourselves then fund them for a 97% engine on the next cycle and we only get 92-95% engine.
Best Knowledge I can give you is our next Car will be better noticeably then any other car we have made to date. I also believe the 44 car will be better then next season car. Simply put our staff is better and they are getting more experience in building our chassis and aero parts as planned.
The only questions we will decide on the long term future is will we partner with a nuetral or an F1 team or build our own engine in the next Cycle. But have some Faith we will decide based on where Mercedes get the most advantage on our assets and we know where our Liabilties are.
So with changes in rules comes changes in both short and longterm startegy.. But how do you Like how far Mercedes has come so far?
:)
