First Podium for Peters in Dubai
Steve Peter's convincing second place and fastest lap time in this morning's Rookie Race at Dubai marks a significant milestone in the 19 year old drivers development, according to team insiders. "Steve has really impressed with his quick development - his pace is improving steadily, as is the level of feedback he is giving us" enthused race engineer Bert Fowler. "We paid for a poor tactical call to pit too early in our first rookie outing at Bulaweyo, but it all came together for us today" he added.
The Brisbane-based youngster was cautiously optimistic about his prospects in upcoming rookie events and the F3 GP XXI series he is also competing in, but admitted a few hard lessons have been learnt along the way. "We are putting our private car campaign with our Peugeot 206 on hold for a while - while we are happy with our development so far, the standard of competition is far too high at the moment for us to make an impact. We had expected it to be a bit of a feeder series for sports cars, but that doesn't seem to be the case ..."
"There's some exciting talent in the rookie races, but as long as we keep making the right calls I think we will be consistent podium contenders. GP XXI is a tougher nut to crack, with some race-hardened experience to go up against, but our recent 10th at Bathurst gives us some hope of competing for a few more points throughout the series."
