Keep an Open Mind

I think you are not looking at this with an open mind. The financial changes haven't even been implemented yet, and you are already calling them a failure. We should at least give them a chance before deciding whether they work or not.

Changes to the financial system are also not something that will necessarily produce an immediate visible effect. Their real impact may only become clear after several seasons. And I don't think these changes were ever presented as the final solution to the problem. They are a step towards finding a better solution, and their results should be evaluated before deciding what needs to be changed or improved further.

Even if the new tanking rules are not yet in place, saying that the teams still don’t stay within the limit is clearly not true. All teams currently have less than 50M.

Yes, it looks like the increased tyre wear was a failure, because the change was not big enough and with the additional tyres, it did not make setting up the car harder as intended. But that is something that can be changed very easily. DebiK can adjust the tyre wear and tyre allocation in a matter of minutes.

“There are at most 10 people in the game who really understand what needs to be done and how to do it.”

That is also clearly not true. I could name you a lot more than 10 managers who understand what needs to be done and how to do it.

“All the recent changes, starting with the addition of driver skills, have completely destroyed any competition. The guys who used to fight for titles and win in F1 are now just at the bottom.”

Can you name me a few examples? The only reason why a good manager would suddenly become bad is their inactivity. However, without special skills it was way too easy to max-out a driver, so there were more competitive drivers indeed. However, I think it's better that people have a chance to make a difference and not be limited by the system. I actually think driver development is still too easy. All drivers should have strengths and weaknesses, but for that you must make it impossible to max-out a driver, and you also must make all skills relevant, so people need to make strategic choices.

And finally...

“Team leaders need to start talking and reaching agreements. There is a special chat on the F1 page where we should put forward proposals, discuss them…”

And yet you decided to post this as a press release rather than a forum post, where team shareholders could actually discuss these proposals and work towards a common position.

The changes failed again.

To be honest, I’m very glad that the latest changes turned out to be a failure — simply because they didn’t ruin anything. But I’m surprised that people keep asking for more complex F1 rules. Why make everything more complicated? There are at most ...
