Pressemeldinger - Williams Champions Series
Williams Champions Series
Williams will be launching Champions Series to honor every single Williams World Driver´s Champion in the last 45 years in this sport.
To show our respects to these great drivers we will include one special track from each driver where they drove memorable races and what went down to the history books. Here are few examples.
Alan Jones:
First ever Williams World Drivers Champion and winning it in the last race of 1980 season securing it in the United States Grand Prix. For that honor we will be racing in the track where he secured the title which is Watkins Glen International circuit.
Keke Rosberg
First ever Finnish F1 World Drivers Champion, known for his aggressive driving style & showmanship attitude. He defeated French driver Didier Pironi to take home Williams teams 2nd World Driver´s Championship in F1. For his honor we will be driving in Dijon France where he took his first ever win.
Nelson Piquet
3x F1 World Driver´s Champion and one of the best drivers ever in F1. Controversial character outside of the track but he won Championship with Williams in 1987 and for his honor we will be racing in Brazil Interlagos
Nigel Mansell
Maybe the most popular Williams driver of all time & in F1 overall in the 80´s & early 90´s. Nigel is heart & soul of British motor racing. Nigel is no doubt one of the greatest driver´s this world has ever seen. Extremely smart on the track, played 3d chess against his rivals and finally took World Driver´s Championship with Williams in 1992 after losing it in spectacular fashion in 1986 to Alain Prost when his tyre exploded. For Nigel´s honor we will be racing of course in Silverstone.
Alain Prost
The Professor Alain Prost who replaced Nigel Mansell in 1993 after taking a sabbatical in 1992, won his 4th World Driver´s Championship with Williams. For his honor we will be racing in Adelaide Australia where he drove his last ever race in F1. Sharing the podium last time with Ayrton Senna.
Damon Hill
When you think of Damon Hill you can´t but think of Adelaide 1994 race where Benetton´s Michael Scumacher collided purposely with Damon to win the title for himself. Schumacher and Hill had legendary races against each other, especially in 1994 & 1995 seasons where Damon lost both times to the German, but finally Damon won the title in 1996 securing it in Japan Suzuka. And in that same track we will be racing to honor Damon Hill.
Jacques Villeneuve
Jacques Villeneuve the latest driver to win World Driver´s Championship for Williams. The Rabid Canadian came to F1 with a bang. Finishing 2nd place in his debut season with Williams in Driver´s standings & Winning F1 World Title next season in 1997 defeating Ferrari´s Michael Schumacher to win the World Driver´s Championship to WIlliams.
He secured the title in the last race in Jerez, where Schumacher tried to take out Jacques to secure the title for Ferrari, but he failed and got stuck in the sand. And as one legendary British commentator said.
That didn´t work, you hit him in the wrong part my friend.
For Villeneuve´s honor we will be racing in Jerez.
7 different driver´s have won World Championships with Williams and all of them have earned their place in the history books of F1.
We will be creating this series soon.
