Peters dominant at Piestany airport - again!
Brisbane-based racer Steve Peters spent this afternoon relaxing in a Piestany cafe with an ice-cold Zlaty Bazant, reflecting on a second successful weekend of racing at the Piestany airfield as part of the F3 Slovak Series. In the two visits the series has made to Piestany so far, Peters has won a race each weekend, placed fourth in the first weekend's second race, and second in yesterdays race. A common feature of all the Piestany races has been some extremely close dueling with series leader Paolo Italiano, Jr, who has won two of these races and finished second in the others. So, does Peters see himself as the main competition for Italiano in this series?
"Blue Goat Racing has had a couple of great outings here at Piestany, but apart from our earlier win at the Red Bull Ring, we haven't been quite as competitive as we had hoped", shrugged Peters, taking another slip of the renowned Slovak beer. "Paolo is definitely the man to beat and is the favorite to take away the title, but there are at least a half-dozen other drivers in this series who are almost as good, and almost everybody in the field is capable of a surprise or two on a good day."
With six races left to run in this series, Peters is still uncertain where he will be concentrating his efforts next season. "This has been a good, challenging season - and Piestany in particular has been really good to us - but will another season here in the Slovak series be a step in the right direction? The Blue Goat team have got a lot out of this season, but it might be time to seek out a new challenge - let's wait and see."
