Maybe it is Time for a change in Chassis designs
Since chassis are the Key component in F1 Car design. It effects everything on the Car. Maybe instead as Chassis template of Speed Nuetral handling or downforce. With mystical Values of what the attribute of the car will be.. Maybe we should be able to prioritize in The chassis attributes each team seeks most and least.
Why do believe this is good. Chevys Chassis this year and all it aero parts have significant improvement over the season 43 car. Yet the Car so far is worse with same engine. Our Gearbox is 2% less then our 43 car gearbox.. Funny part about that it's over 10% higher then supplier version yet speed and accleration is less.
Now we also made our own Energy store.. while that was also not a huge success it is higher in supplier version..
All of the led to a 5% drop in acceleration..
Now granted I am still new at this.. Granted our car did gain 15% in handling on a handling Chassis.. Yet every real car development team Has real control on the what characteristics they are shooting for out of thier car. Not some mystery characteristics we get from each chassis.. With zero information what those characteristic will be from improvements.
Let just say I have X number of acceleration this season.. My main focus is improving that number . Yet I do not want to lose something I am happy with.. I would set our my development team to improve those characteristics. right now I have zero clue how to get in game what I could easily expect out of my teams on any part.
Now I suggest one of two things.. Either detail what each type of chassis influences on all characteristics at the upper end.. Our simply let us make each our own unique chassis based on our personal goals for each characteristic more like what can Really be down in any engineering project.
Because Right now on every project for every part we design I feel like we are blindfolded throwing a dart and hoping we get the attributes we want.
Now all of this is not asking for an Immediate change to F1 car development system. It merely pointing out a problem every f1 team manger faces on every part they design. In truth no ability to influence the HIGH end characteristics of each part.
So far to date only part where that can be done is through engine tuning. Should not all parts through design have That same ability in mind.
