Team Phantom Power plagued by mistakes and problems
Dante Vanderpuije starts from the back of the grid for Wednesday‘s race after there was a mix up with tyres. Going into the qualifying session, Vanderpuije had high hopes of securing his second pole position of the season but it was botched after the team put an extremely worn set of tyres on from the previous days’ practice.
“I’m completely disappointed today. We had the speed to put it on pole. The car felt fantastic during practice and we were close to a perfect setup. When I got out there I expected to put my head down and get the job done. As I began I felt that the car was completely wrong and then I realized that the tyres were the wrong ones. A real shame and an extremely uncommon mistake from the boys. We’ve got a tough race on our hands, we’ll have a lot of work to do come Wednesday.”
The team continues their turbulent season with Vanderpuije only making it onto the podium once this year, dropping out of half the current races.
“The goal now is to get into the top 10, we’ve got to limit the damage as much as possible. Dan is running away at the front now, and it’s almost the halfway point. We’re going to have to really try hard if we want to have a shot at this year’s title.”
The team hasn’t had the strongest race runs on ovals, this being their weak point. It’s left in Vanderpuije’s hands as he’ll attempt to make the best out of an unfortunate and tough situation.
