Mixed Start for Sherman
Ezra Sherman, a 23-year-old American driver in his 5th season of motor racing, has had a mixed start to his sophomore season in the F3 Balkan series. In the first race at Letališče Portorož, Sherman impressively climbed to the top step after starting in 13th position. Taking advantage of a safety car midway through the race, and a Helton Castroneves DNF, he held onto first, battling with Boki Montoya up until the last corner of the race, where he overtook him for the win.
The second race was promising all throughout for Sherman, until his eventual retirement on lap 57, after a clash with rival Anna Viviani brought out the safety car. Up until then, Sherman, Viviani, Montoya, and others were all fighting for the lead of the race. Viviani took the lead and won the race by 0.269 seconds.
"I think the opening two races were good," Sherman said afterwards. "They had two vastly different results, but it shows my improvement from last season." Sherman also congratulated the race winner, saying "Anna [Viviani] is a great driver, and deserved that win. I hope we can have more races like that this season."
