Sitting 2nd in the Indy Jr International Series was short-lived for Guy Wellington and the UK Elite team as the series reached Sante Fe.
Qualifying was a shock as Wellington - persistently in the Top 5 - put the car in the wall and secured 33rd and last on the grid as he saw his title contenders occupy the first 3 rows.
The team produced a high risk, aggressive two-stop strategy that has proven reliable in the past and with the arrival of the Safety Car saw Guy Wellington leading shortly after the half way point. Stop #2 bought Wellington out 2nd and with fresh tyres and low fuel looked set to chase down Sigername for the win but a lapse in concentration saw Wellington visit the wall for a second time and retire.
