Formula 1: Proposal for New Tyre Rules
Again, I would like to put forward my proposal for Formula 1 tyre rule changes. As I said before, for me one of the biggest drawbacks in MRC Formula 1 is it’s qualifying format and I know many of you are frustrated by it.
At the moment you are only limited to 1 attempt per qualifying session, so qualifications are in most part decided by pure luck, random, or whatever you want to call that. In my opinion qualifications should reflect driver’s and car’s pace. With expansion of available tyres sets we could remedy that…
In my proposal each driver would be able to use 13 sets of slick tyres for every race weekend:
- In free practice drivers would be able to use 4 sets of slick tyres (2x Hard and 2x Medium). Those tyres would be given back after the free practice, so you wouldn’t be able to use them in qualification or race.
- For the rest of the weekend (qualifications, warm up and race) driver could choose from 8 sets of slick tyres (2x Hard, 3x Medium and 2x Soft).
- If a driver advances in Q3 he gets 2 sets of Ultra Soft tyres that can be only used in this session.
With tyre rules changed we would also see a change in qualification format as drivers would be able to have 2 attempts per session.
If possible, I would also eliminate Warm Ups.
New tyre rules
In general I agree with you and also with Wokinger - tyres for practice shouldn't be limited. But if we are talking about 13 sets for weekend, great addition would be to choose how much sets of each compound driver would have - as in real F1. 1 se...
