Rookie driver Long making a big impact
25 year old rookie Joseph Long had pretty high hopes going into his first year of Rookie F3 competition. But even he is surprised at his impressive results so far early this season. With 5 series races completed so far, he boasts 3 6th place finishes and one 5th at Euro-Ring, his first top 5 of his career. If it weren't for engine failure at the second race at Killarney last week, he would likely have a fifth top ten finish to hang his hat on. When asked about his recent success, the driver said, "We know now that a podium is well within our grasp and maybe even a win by the end of the season. Right now the speed is there, and the car has been very consistent. I just need to concentrate on making fewer mistakes near the end of the race." With the second race in Dubai coming up next on the schedule, the young American from Tulsa, Oklahoma is sitting in 56th spot in the overall rookie series points, 121 points back from the leader, the extremely impressive 18 year old Yu Feliz of China. Despite this being his first season in MRC, he's managed to climb to the 9th spot in China's national driver rankings. When asked about his Chinese competitor, Long had this to say. "It's incredible how much he's been able to pick up in this short amount of time. I got to watch him drive at Killarney, even battled it out with him a little in the second race. He's extremely fast and very smooth while still racing on the edge. I look forward to more races with him, and I hope that when I get my first win, it'll be him on that second step of the podium."
