Knight Stays Calm to Take Race 1

Brandon Knight will be pleased and relieved in equal measure coming in from the first race at Donington Park having been pushed all the way by Nick Wheeler.

Knight got off the line well and put a few seconds between himself and the pack early but Wheeler was soon hot on his heels after Andersson made a big mistake on lap 2 dropping 5 places.

By the half way mark Wheeler had gotten himself within striking distance and the two leaders had pulled out a respectable distance from the rest of the field. It was most definitely a 2 horse race.

On lap 18 Wheeler saw his opportinuty and despite a snall mistake made the pass stick. Suddenly it was role reversal time. But not for long, just 2 laps later Wheelers pushing caused him to make a big mistake costing him around 5 seconds of track time and Knight retook the lead. Knight visibly backed off after this, with just 7 laps to go Wheeler reeled him in again, but not enough to make a move.

We grabbed Knight in the pit lane afterwards.

- "Brandon, great race, you must be pleased"

"Of course, it's a great result and the one we were hoping for but it didn't come easy and if Nick hadn't made that mistake after passing me it definitely would have been his race, he showed amazing pace out there today"

- "You seemed to back off in the latter stages"

"It wasn't a case of backing off, more taking care of the car, the last thing I wanted after getting back in front was to break the car"

- "What can we look forward to next race?"

"Nick out for blood...."


Knight will start race 2 from pole position but with only the 6th fastest time on track today he's going to need to find a little extra speed somewhere if he hopes to keep ahead of Wheeler in the longer second race.
