Knight beats Wheeler to Pole at Donington
As qualifying came to a close just a few minutes ago it was Knight who shone brightest with a commanding display of what is reportedly one of his favourite tracks, although he's never raced here before. His two laps were the two fastest posted by anybody sitting him firmly on pole position for the first race, nearly half a second faster than Wheeler, a result he is surely delighted with.
Andersson took second, with Wheeler lining up right behind his friend and rival in 3rd. Djort and Gavura, recent rivals of Knight also line up near the top of the grid. It should be a great couple of races at Donington where the weather forecast is sunny and clear, a bit of an anomoly in the UK.
As rumours continue to emerge regarding Knight, Bennett and Wheeler's activities next season this could provide us with a bit of a preview of some of that action. Both drivers will be looking for a strong performance this week as they aim to climb the Rookie Championship table. Knight currently sits in 40th spot having been plagued by mechanical isses, with Wheeler just 9 points ahead of him in 35th.
It was also just confirmed that Knight and Wheeler would get a return leg to this rivalry, this time in Wheelers back yard at Watkins Glen. Rumour has it Drummond Bennett has also been seen around the pit lane here at Donington, speaking to both drivers, what's developing here is anybody's guess right now.
Stay tuned, we'll be following this one all the way!
