Mixed results for Peters at the Nurburgring
Hot on the heels of his second place at the Dubai rookie race, yesterday's outing in two seperate events at the Nurburgring had mixed outcomes for Australian youngster Steve Peters. Forced to drop out of the 31 lap stand-alone race on the third lap with a cracked cylinder head at the Ford-Kurve, Peters expressed some disappointment with the short outing. "It was a very challenging field, but a good lap or two of wheel-to-wheel racing with Leonid Karpov was - even if he eventually got the better of me - a great show for the crowd and highlights just how much racing at this level is great experience for me. I was looking forward to a good, challenging race when we lost the engine."
The following 20-lap F3 GP XXI event was more successful, with Peters moving up from 16th on the grid to finish 10th, doubling his points haul for the F3 GP XXI series. "After some early overtaking opportunities in the first four or five laps, it was mainly a matter of maintaining a good, consistent pace and trying to minimise errors. After this morning's disappointment, this was a great outcome for the entire team".
Fans of Peter's small but enthusiastic outfit, Blue Goat Racing, will be keen to see what Peters can make of starting 10th on the grid at his next Nurburgring GP3 XXI event and his next rookie race at Dubai, where he will start from the front row just beside the lights to flag winner of the last event, 18 year old Italian rookie Giacomo Losi. "Nobody could catch Giacomo in our last Dubai outing once he established a gap," Peters noted thoughtfully, "but having recorded the fastest lap time in that race I will be looking to keep the pressure on him. There will be some experienced drivers for a rookie series chasing us with Costas Koush and Vita Amendola just behind us on on the grid, though, so I will still be watching my mirrors pretty closely! Either way, the frontrunners should be giving the Dubai crowd some entertaining racing to watch."
Dubai and Nurburgring Update
Peters managed another podium finish in the second Dubai rookie race, although he was disappointed to end up in third after losing the fight for second with Losi with three turns to go on the final lap and coming in only 0.2 seconds behind at the che...
