Wet Ride Nets Rookie a Top-10 Qual
There weren't many brave fans left at the end of qualifying today at Circuit de Dakar Baobabs, due to a torrential downpour that surprised many of the teams and soaked this scenic Senegalese track.
But those hardy souls surely must have wondered what was going on around the #26 car of rookie Bobby Lee Russell. His first top-10 qualification was the apparent cause of an impromptu celebration that could not be dampened by the rain.
The rain was a huge factor all day, as roughly a third of the field failed to switch to wet tires which resulted in some very slow laps.
The forecast is for a dry track for tomorrow's race, so the 20 year old Russell can anticipate a finish further down the leader board, but for now the fledgling Team Pendragon crew is dancing in the rain.
