Smidl is victorious in Melbourne - Young Bucks Racers U22
Race No.4 took place on the streets of Melbourne's Southbank neighbourhood and the top 2 of the series were not on pole position, it was Michal Smidl from the Czech Republic. Ze Cruz started from position 3, Janos Toth-Fodor from position 7 and host Raphael Weber from position 14.
45 laps were completed and the street circuit caused a few collisions and tough duels here and there. There was no shortage of driving errors in the race either. Host Weber in particular was involved in 2 collisions, but still crossed the finish line in the end. Five drivers were eliminated, including the two Canadians Jack Clow and Louis-Philippe Seguin, Felix Piquet, Lucas Olocco and Italian Egidio Suai.
Pole setter Michal Smidl won the race in the end ahead of Juan Barnard and Fabricio Ze Cruz. Toth-Fodor was unable to make up any positions by the end of the race and crossed the finish line in seventh place.
This allowed Fabricio Ze Cruz to make up some ground on Toth-Fodor in the overall standings. Janos Toth-Fodor still leads with 171 points, the Portuguese Ze Cruz in second place with 160, followed by Enrico Bitta, Silke Rasmussen and Michal Smidl, who complete the top five with 108, 103 and 88 points respectively. Host Raphael Weber lost two positions and is now in 12th place with 50 points.
The Young Bucks Racers U22 have now reached the halfway point of the season and the centre of the championship will be held in Venezuela, in San Carlos. There, host Raphael Weber will announce the second edition of the Young Bucks Racers U22. I have already been told that this time there will be 10 races but the points distribution will remain the same.
We will know after the qualification in San Carlos.
