Rollercoaster - From Nightmare to a Fairytale
The second rounds of the Youngster Cup and the Happy Racing CXL U21 ended yesterday.
The second races were a rollercoaster ride between good, nightmare and fairytale for Raphael Weber. The German qualified in 6th place for both heats of the first race, which is unfortunately the penultimate place in the Youngster Cup but a promising position in the Happy Racing CXL.
The Youngster Cup took place in Mont-Tremblant, Canada. In the first race, Weber's error rate was slightly higher, which meant that he lost touch with the other riders early on and finished last. The starting grid for race 2 was in reverse order to the result of race 1, putting the German on pole position for race 2.
Drapal Janos, the Cup leader and strongest driver on the grid, overtook Raphael Weber in the first few laps, but Weber's pace was the strongest in this race and he took his second ever Cup podium in Race 2.
The Happy Racing CXL U21 series was in Monteblanco, Spain for the 2nd of 4 races. Similar to the Youngster Cup in Mont-Tremblant, Weber was much more error-prone in Monteblanco in race 1 and was also involved in a few collisions. Weber finished the first race in 27th position and in the Happy Racing CXL the result of race 1 is the starting grid for race 2. The comeback was perfect. Several drivers dropped out until the pit stop for Raphael Weber, who moved up to P13 and finished the race in P5 and as the last driver on the lead lap.
"These races were very instructive when it comes to my strengths and weaknesses in a starting field that is at a similar level to me, and in race 1 I still have the difficulty of having so much confidence that it runs smoothly straight away. From the second race onwards, you have a bit more experience and that gives you a better reputation for race 2," said Weber, describing the rollercoaster ride.
The upcoming races are likely to be a little more challenging for the young German. The Youngster Cup is heading to the Nordschleife on the Nürburgring and the Happy Racing CXL U21 is a guest in Senegal at the Circuit de Dakar - Baobabs
