WRS season 50 preview: Five or Nothing
4 WRS championships and 54 WRS rally wins. These are records shared by both Wynn Hunter and Visvaldis Ceļš heading into this much anticipated 9th season of WRS. But Ceļš has been the stronger driver in more recent seasons, winning in S46-49, so they will surely break the tie and streak ahead in the record books...
Or will they? Not only did Hunter win 5 rallies last season, the most they've won since S45, but there are also major rule changes set to shake up the WRS like never before. The team that adapts to these new regulations the fastest could well win the S50 championship, and that opens the door for Pankrác Zatáčka, a driver who has been knocking on said door since their first WRS win in S47.
Jan Zhuk is also someone who could break through and achieve a WRS rally win this season. Whilst they're not as seasoned as the big two, they have as much pace as anyone out there. A total of 10 drivers with "active" teams will be competing this season, including 3 rookies; Artis Rezervists finally makes the move up after three straight WRS-2 titles, whilst Juan Ciani and Craig Gardner also try their luck in the big leagues after solid campaigns at continental level.
The new era for WRS is set to begin proper in less than 24 hours, with Monte Carlo playing host to one of the most anticipated rallies in MRC history.
