Wanted to add some context
I just wanted to point out that big portion of that gap in not just due to team ranking. Drivers are also one of the reasons why it’s so hard to topple Red Bull. We were fortunate that we could attract very good driver with high rating even when we weren’t competitive. However, it still took us a long time to attract the best drivers. Atelsek and Reckziegel are the first maxed out drivers that drove for Porsche.
I agree with you, though. That the game needs to change so that good management is rewarded more quickly. This is why I made proposals that would shrink some of the income gap between teams.
When I joined Porsche, everyone was saying that there is no way you can topple Red Bull, McLaren and Jordan. I disagreed. However, I knew that it would take 10, or even 20 seasons to make a real dent and even longer if you want to go all the way to the top. This doesn’t bother me, but I know that most don’t share my view. To me winning doesn’t matter as long as the game if fun to play.
Few years back I also made some comments, that we have too many teams in Formula 1. For me the perfect number would be 12 teams. When LKR forgot to sign drivers, suppliers,... I suggested that the team should be disbanded. I made the same suggestion when BMW went under. With 12 teams, F1 would be a lot more interesting and competitive.
With 15 teams, there is no way you can introduce a system when every team could be competitive within the reasonable amount of time, even if they are managed well.
It looks like DebiK’s solution to that is to split the grid in half with cost caps. Half of the teams will fight for the title, while the other half will be uncompetitive for 8 seasons while they focus on the engine and other mechanical parts. After 8 seasons, roles will be reversed. To me, that is just silly…
I would rather see he would add team management aspect to Moto1 and offered Formula 1 teams to switch seres. But that is an entirely different topic...
The devil is definitely in the details!
Thank you for your response torbar4life. Of course, the devil is in the details. When you make a comparison about spending between Red Bull and LKR to the benefit of attracting better sponsors, you are only amplifying the point of the importa...
Searching for Common Ground and the Future
Realizing tobar4life is one of the key influencers in MRC, it is encouraging to note that he believes that good management should be rewarded and supports the idea of income gap shrinkage. He's noted that DebiK's solution is to "split the g...
While a very simple analysis says Drivers ar3e what keeps top team on top.. But they do not get the best drivers at the start.
Drivers are important to every F1 team.. But in todays MRC then numbers of drivers in the 4k plus range.. Any of those drivers with 4k rating and 100 personals could step into RBR car and get the same results. F1 MRC is not even the best place to ju...
