French F3 Series Final Race This Weekend - Ben Solo´s ambition to finish 1st
There are only a handfull of young British drivers, who can magnetize the crowds and be a real nightmare for their fellow driver collegues. Ben Solo is one of them. We had the unique chance to get an exclusive interview.
How do you feel after loosing the victory in Nogaro due to a poor strategy decision?
Ben Solo:"We win together and we loose together. I can not determine this race as a loss. We finished 3rd, only 0.7 seconds behind the winner and over 40 seconds in front of 4th place. The car was great. We could have done another stop." (laughs)
How do you prepare for the final race? Does your success have a secret ingredient?
Ben Solo:"We prepare for it as usual. If I tell you, it would not be a secret. (smirks) But I can give you a hint, good food and nice women, that is the key to my ambition to finish 1st." (twinkles)
Looking back at your 1st season, is there anything that you could have done better from your point of view?
Ben Solo:"Well, it depends on how hard you focus when looking back. I could have done every lap in a better way. Essentially I compete to win, if I do not win, then I could have done something better for sure. Did you like my performance so far?"
Like is an understatement. We really love the way you race, especially when you are fighting for a position. Do you want to compete in other Series, too?
Ben Solo:"Next season I want to come home and compete in the British F3 Series. I love Britain and I get the feeling that Britain is falling in love with me. I have not thought about it further, but one day Formula 1, it would be a dream come true."
You are already 25. How did it happen, that a man who is undoubtely talented made his breakthrough in professional racing so late? There are guys, who scratch 18 and are doing already thei 2nd or 3rd Season.
Ben Solo:"I do not care about the others. I only look at myself and try to improve my abilities. I had some difficulties as a youth and when I found out for myself, that racing is the thing to do in life, I needed some distance between my old life and my new one. That is why I went to Japan first, where I took every work I could get to finance my participation in some local racing series. When I got back to Europe last year I could bring some japanese experience and thrilled my current sponsor so much, that he gave me a shot in France. By the way i like France very much. The food is great and the women are lovely." (laughs)
Do you have some kind if idol?
Ben Solo:"There are a lot of racers I have admired as a child, but I truely belive that people need to be themselves. My future me is my todays idol"
The championship is out of reach this year, nevertheless we expect great results from you in Paul Ricard. When do you think, that you can fight for the championship?
Ben Solo:"I am looking forward to match your expectations, but please do not be disappointed if I do not. (smirks) Hopefully next season for the British title. Right now my focus is on todays qualifying."
Thank you so much for your time and good luck for the racing weekend!
Ben Solo:"It has been a pleasure. Thank you.
