Mack Spectacularly Fails, Outlines Retirement Plan
90% doesn't cut it in this sport, and after what was looking set to be a phenomenal year for British Indy racer Mack Zaggro, who was set to comfortably collect shiny silverware for finishing runner up in the Championship, the 30 year old instead found himself returning his rental tux, and exchanging his Mumm Champaign for a few cans for FourX in the parking lot.
Having amassed a very healthy 50 point gap to P3 with 4 races to run, Zaggro simply had to do what he had done all season and collect solid podiums, even Top 5's... And bring home the bacon at the remaining four races. However, having changed nothing to his driving style, or parameters, Mack suffered a remarkable run of misfortune, registering 2x DNF, a P2, and P11 in the final 4 races, as race craft, chassis, and even the weather seemed to get away from him when it mattered most.
This in turn has dealt a likely irreparable blow to achieving one of the most significant goals of his career, and being manager Adamski's second UK#1 Ranked Driver.
It is this - in fact - that remains the only potential variable to Zaggro's retirement plan.
"It was always our goal to bow out at 32... Maybe 33." said Mack, who turns 31 at Season's end.
"I got stuff to do, totally super secret stuff... So we are gonna have one last legitimate crack at Indy, which realistically is a shot at runner up, as no-one of the current crop is beating Morgan, I've made peace with that. As for the following season, well, let's just say we have had a lot of fun running absurd strategies on maximum aggression in our local British Invitational Private Series. I figure for my swan song season, why not crank everything up to 100 and go out swinging! I figure if nothing else, we can at least shoot for breaking a stack of Indy lap records as we shred every last morself or rank we've worked to create".
Never one to let a few bad results drag the mood down, Zaggro took the opportunity of missing out on the Prizegiving Gala, to grab a bucket of chicken, a dozen donuts and have an evening in with his best mate Netflix.
