Brandon Knight Joins the Call for Change

Brandon Knight was one of last seasons shock retirements and at the time left without so much as a press release. The recent comments of Ray Striver and Nick Wheeler however seem to have sparked something and we recieved this release through our door this morning.

"At the time of my leaving MRC I decided not to make any public statements however the recent outcrys of my fellow drivers, most notably Ray Striver and Nick Wheeler have prompted me to join the cry for change. I left MRC as I could not find it in myself to continue in such a world where continually adding new series to an already flooded market is prioritised over fundamental racing issues and problems.

My last two seasons were dominated by the fact that I either finished with a good result or not at all, or as it's been coined now 'high-speed bingo'. There was no middle ground. Races are not decided on driver skill, setup or strategy they are decided on random events.

In practice the DNF system is ridiculous. Running lowest possible risk and mech still results in failures that cost you anything up to two sessions. This added to the fact that there is no underlying difference in running higher mech or risk settings for more feedback is ridiculous and the whole practice system is flawed.

Come race day every driver is always, without fail, on the same strategy. There is simply no way to run anything different (in F3 at least). Tyres do not degrade sensibly at all (higher tyre aggro should make for higher degradation and more speed allowing for different stategies) and pit stops are more often than not a precessional affair over a 2 lap period with almost no difference occuring.

Further frustrations have arisen from the lack of control over my driver. No way to tell him to ease off when well out in front or put his foot down after a mistake means more processional racing and no real skill involved. It also means mistakes are as likely at any stage, even the last corner with a whole lap lead....

Mechanical DNF's are random and too frequent. The cars simply should not break down this often and the 1-100 arression settings, much like tyres, is a mess. I've been keeping tabs on my replacement and even running at 1 risk he has still had driver errors cause him DNF's. The risk-reward system is just not working right.

The frequency of pace cars is also way over the top. Alsmost all non oval races in the world have a localised yellow flag system for minor incidents rather than 5 lap safety cars every time a single car spins out.

I really believe MRC has something special here however it could be so much better. A reworking of the risk and reward, less dnf's and a basic AI system for drivers would make such a difference to a game that used to have me logging in all the time and now has me log in for 10 mins a day to do setups for the two series and make sure my training is correct.

Finally, before I sign off for the final time I would like to thank all those who have helped me out, supported me and raced with me, especially my fellow RAGE Teammates.
Brandon Knight, out."

"Why am I even bothering... Seriously, someone needs to remind me of why I am making any effort to race!?" said a furious Ray Striver after walking home at three - quarter distance at today's Indy Jr event. But it's not his own result that ...

A Rookie Perspective

After several experienced drivers have stated their criticism of the current game mechanics, let me humbly outline my point of view as a total newcomer. And while I'm still totally hooked to the game, that doesn't mean I don't see problems in it. ...
