F2 NA Wide Open
There is some serious talent - and future talent - in Formula 2 North America, but its not who you'd think chasing down the championship leader Grosjean Jr.
Back in the title hunt for the first time since winning the British F3 crown in his debut series in Season 7, Britain's Ray Striver has enjoyed the very thing that eluded him over the past few seasons, consistency, racking up four podiums in eight races and remains the only driver in the field to score points in every race to date. But Ray is quick to deflect his successes and instead attributes his 2nd place in the championship to the misfortunes of others.
"We're averaging twelve points per race! This weekend in Long Beach was our best yet, our best qualifying in 4th, then 3rd in the Sprint and 2nd in the Feature Race". said Ray.
"At least Maines decided to show up this week..." he said with a wry smile. "We havn't stood on the podium together since Rookie so that was great for the team!"
"At the outset of the season we had some basic goals, a few extended goals and some lofty aspirations. At the very, very least we shoot for 6th in the championship, that way we've made our entrance fee back in prize money. We also wanted to end the season as #2 in the UK Rankings as i figured at the moment, Jonas Gudas is too far ahead in 1st. We've jumped from 6th to 2nd in just 4 weeks! We've also matched last years race win total in just 20 races and bought home a 2nd place trophy from the North EU Custom! And he's only just turned 22..." said Strivers manager.
"The real test will be holding on to a top 3 spot in F2NA. A few good weeks from our rivals and we could slip to 5th or 6th in a flash, its that close!"
It was predicted by several of the participants that this would be a fiercely contested championship and, approaching mid-season, it has been just that!
