Mastering the Green Hell
Congratulations to Damon Michael Novikov for winning the inaugural season of the Green Hell Trophy. Eight races of various length on the legendary and daunting Nürburgring Nordschleife plus two events on bonus tracks put men and machine to the ultimate test. The 28 yr old russian Formula 1 star took 9 out of 12 victories, leaving two victories for his compatriot Sergey Kalinin and one for Hungary's #1 driver Sandor Torghelle. "The unique challenge of this series obviously is the special characteristic of these classic tracks with their very long laps", explains series manager Maltorb. "This means few practise laps for every driver. You have to know your way around to excel as the Master of the Green Hell." The series ended on May, 28th, so the last heat was a support race to the famous 24h race, held on the same weekend. "Driving in front of 200.000 spectators was the highlight of the series" says Maltorb's driver Michel Weiland. "We were lucky to race in really good wheather. Unlike the 24h guys, I still can't believe they had to redflag that race because the cars could not climb the slippery gradient up to Adenauer Forst during a terrific hail storm. Never seen anything like that before..."
Series manager Maltorb is already busy with the preparation work for the next season. "We will soon have another Green Hell Trophy, but some more tracks will be included. Expect great classic venues like Bathurst and Pescara to be part of this unique private series."
