Wellington Calls For Enquiry
The Fourth running of the illustrious UK Single Race Championship is just three races in to its new Private Series format and it is already proving to be one of - if not the - closest run series in MRC. Proven in the first round qualifying at Thruxton, with 27 of the 30 car field registering a time within one second of the pole sitter!
Naturally, with this level of competition you expect drivers to come to blows, and the first three races have provided just that, but one rarely hears of inter-team acrimony.
NOVA Sport team-mates Jay Wellington and Paul Dover found themselves in a heated midfield battle after Wellington was punted out of 10th place early on, and Dover climbed from a woeful qualifying outside the Top 20. Jay had the edge over his garage-neighbour going into the 28th and final lap at Donnington today, and pulled a remarkable, and brave double-overtake on Leo Brianson and Tommy Scragend to claw back a respectable 12th place... For the next few corners... before both drivers sought to return the favour, pulling manners on the younger Wellington and reclaiming both positions.
Not content with simply watching this racing masterclass, Dover takes it upon himself to join the party, and strong-arms his way through, unceremoniously dropping Jay from 12th to 15th in the final chicane and leaving him three seconds adrift of the trio...
"I think its very clear what happened here..." said the 22 year old Euro Touring Car driver.
"The absence of replay footage is Pauls' saving grace here, to lose a second being overtaken is one thing, but to cross the line three seconds down shows he just clean ran me off the road! I had the pace on Paul all weekend, he sure didn't pass me on raw speed thats for sure."
"Both drivers have just begun to deviate into their own differing training regime, Welly has been pulling 100kg dog-sleds down the hard shoulder of the M1 and playing extreme frisby in torrential rain to bulk up his fitness, where-as Paul has been committed to the simulator, and darting between pit boxes on a beep test to crank his pace, the pair were bound to have differing approaches to racing on track too!" said team founder Noah Vale.
Press Manager Polly Carbonate was unavailable for comment as they were reportedly taking delivery of the teams traditional post-race muffin basket.
With three races done, the prestigious championship is being led by UK#1 Driver Jackson Storm, with reigning champion, the veteran Chris Kemp and former champion Mike Shoemaker hot on the RAGE drivers heels.
Dover drones on
Its taken 24 hours, but Paul Dover and manager Mattseagull have responded to Adamskis' accusation of on track bullying. "We're sorry its taken so long to issue a statement, but the fact is that we were laughing so hard at Wellys' little rant ...
