Lehdistötiedotteet - Williams Closing S17
Williams Closing S17
Season 17 has been the most successful season by far for us in our long history filled with a lot of ups and downs. Finally we were able to beat our worst rivals consistently and bring points back home from almost every single race. Only in Sepang and Mexico City both of our drivers were left outside of the top 10. In total we got 167 points which is more than twice as much as on the previous seasons in total.
I, as a team manager, am beyond happy with both of our drivers, Pentti Lund and Sandor Torghelle. They really did their best in every event without errors. They had only 3 DNF’s in total out of which only one due to driver mistake. These professional drivers really know how to assess their risks, l would say.
I am sad to tell you again that this was the last season for Lund. He had 3 amazing seasons with us and, in my opinion, hiring Lund as a driver was the most significant turning point on our history. That’s when we really started to challenge the midpack teams on a regular basis and we were able to get some point in important races. As I said, we are sad to see him go and if we had a team specific hall of fame he would definitely be the first eligible driver for that.
We are also giving our full support to a veteran driver, but an F1 rookie Peter Rychly. We’ve already prepped him about the strategies and practise sessions. We are confident that he will be a great addition to our team and a great team mate for Torghelle.
And finally, I would like to thank komanch, bovel and Nightwolf13 and everybody that is involved in the team management of Senna, OMR and BMW. It was a pleasure to race with you and I am looking forward to racing with you guys on season 18 as well.
