NASC Gold Series Update
The race news has not had much updates from NASC Gold Cup, so here it is.
G Berger Jr. is leading the pack in a little over the half way point of the season. J Paoucek, J Smith, R Wolf, and T Ewain are making the top five grouping very competitive. There are less than 100 points separating all of the top 5 drivers with first place having 975 points and fifth place having 880 points.
This series is up for grabs, and takes entertaining to new heights. In twelve races, seven different drivers have won, and twelve different drivers have stood on the podium so far this season. Thirteen drivers have placed in the top five and twenty different drivers have placed in the top ten.
This has proven to be a very competitive series with all forty three drivers qualifying so close that a mistake can cost you ten positions or more. Unlike open wheel driving, rubbing is racing as drivers commonly bump draft, side swipe, and swap paint often in stock car racing. With some races having as many as 500 laps, sometimes just having a car on the lead lap, and still running may take some shrewd planning and a little bit of luck.
All and all, hats off to the drivers in this series, and the race teams that support them. If the second half of the series is as exciting as the first half, I am putting no bets on anyone at this moment, as it is still any driver’s to take.
