When Parameters Are Your Friend...
... They are your friend in a big way! F3 Benelux mid-season stop saw the notorious Spa Francorchamps roll up and deliver its trademark rain outta nowhere! Just 4 of the 30 car field pitted under the Safety Car, all from the top 6, dropping them to the back of the field and 23rd - 26th respectively as the track became suitable only for wet tyres.
In just one lap after the Safety Car stint, Jay Wellington alone had climbed from 26th to 15th and was on his way, along with his fellow wet stoppers to a phenomenally brave and lucrative finish. Series leader Mario Hanna made good on his skills, rising back to the lead he had vacated in the space of just 2 laps, and just in time, as the cold, harsh hand of a second Safety Car put and end to the wet runners charge and ultimately cemented the field to the flag, regrettably ensuring Wellington could climb no further than 14th.
"I'm not disappointed. We took a huge risk that would undeniably have paid off, we really showed some race-craft today, and unfortunately circumstance prevented it from paying off. Sure its a drop in points, and rank, and starting 14th for Race 2 is a chore. But we finally had fun in what has been a challenging season!" said Jay.
