Change At The Top / UK Hall of Fame
For the first time in eight seasons, there is a new face at the top of the UK rankings!
Relative youngster Rubik Beardy took to the stage as a junior in A1 with several fantastic results, gathering raport and a lot of esteem from his peers and competitors as he raced in the Nations Cup's Junior dicipline, and over night cemented his place in the history books by displacing both retiree Robert Headington and long standing British superstar Jonas Gudas and jumping from 3rd to 1st in one fell swoop to become the nations top ranked driver!
Beardy joins a short list of British Legends to hold the prestigious #1 title:
Daphne Flower was the driver to catch from BETA Season, sitting on a substantial rankings margin for several seasons before eventually being overtaken.
Dick Seaman was the first to emerge as UK#1 after Flowers' fall. Running consistently and steadily ensuring Britains two youngest chargers were kept at bay.
Miguel Baines of Crazy Torque Racing won the battle of the team mates to de-throne Seaman, pipping Guy Wellington to the position by literally a matter of decimal places. Baines regrettably holds what is likely an MRC record, holding this #1 title for just six days before his team-mate stamped his authority.
Guy Wellington commanded from the front and never looked back. Running several impressive seasons in F2, but remarkably never taking any Season Series race wins or titles! Finishing runner up on more than one occasion. Early retirement at 26 didn't spell the end of Wellingtons dominance, as the Brit had racked up over 1,000.00 points margin in 1st over Miguel Baines, a deficit that would take almost three seasons to diminish.
Jonas Gudas began his legacy as he took the wheel from retired Guy and has undeniably become the nations modern legend. Becomming only the second UK driver to elevate into the World Ranking Top 20 (after Wellington), and the first to break the Worlds' Top 10. Gudas has taken up several noble causes since taking the inaugural Formula E Championship, namely a stint in Formula 1 which impacted his ranking significantly. Jonas was more than capable of fending off several persuers of his crown, firstly Indy Jr regular Ray Striver, and secondly that of Robert Headington.
So Season 16 see's a big change at the top. Who knows for how long, but welcome to the UK Hall of Fame Rubik Beardy!
