Terrible finish!

The last race of the season has finished and the young Tobias R. Steegs is not happy at all with his performance.

The qualification in the F3 Oceania Series he finished in 8th position. The sprint race he came 6th, but in the feature race, the race to grab some important points to strengthen his position in the standings, he had another DNF.

Because of 2 DNF's in the last 2 feature races, he dropped 2 spots in the standings, finishing this season in 9th position.

We asked the manager a few questions:

Me:
Even though Tobias had 4 DNF's this season, he still managed to finish the season in the top 10, how does that feel?

Rene:
He's done very well this season. Our hopes at the start of the season was position 11 or 12, that's what we were aiming for. That he finished in the top 10 is just magnificent. Although for all of us, the way he has been racing this season, it was a bit of a disappointment as well. He was 7th in standings just 2 weeks ago. The last 2 DNFs has cost him a lot of points.

Me:
Yes we were all hoping that he would be able to climb to the 6th or even 5th position, so we can only imagine what it feels like, but thinking about his overall performance, what do you think he needs to do next season to be able to compete for a top 5 position?

Rene:
In the off-season he needs to train hard, work on his pace and line, at the moment we want to focus on that. I know that the DNF's he had, all had to do with his lack of mental skills, but he is only 19. In my opinion, he'll have plenty of time to work on these skills, so for now, we'll take it one step at the time.

Me:
How was it to compete in your own country, Australia, and being able to compete with a lot of Aussie drivers?

Rene:
After the F3 Benelux Series last season, I think this was a great step for us to take. The F3 Oceania series has some great tracks, and the people we were competing against, are all amazing blokes, all the managers are great to work with, and to compete against, and all the drivers are down-to-earth, easy-going guys, we're even thinking about organising a barbie to celebrate the end of the season.
