Interview: Looking Back to the Regrets....

Wais Vé Kuba came to Laguna Seca feeling confident he can take 3rd in the championship, he only needed Eric Hendrix to have a blow in order to run away with it but Eric finished 4th and 5th in the Sprint and Feature races respectively while Wais took 5th and was the best of the rest as he overtook Eric on the first lap, then Matt Hargrave going off and not recovering then got Staci Evans then left her for dead as he pulled away from her by 20 seconds in the period of 40 laps, he even took the fastest lap of the race, which now beats Dan Hass' 4. He now takes the McDonalds Fastest Lap Award while Vini had the pole position trophy since the 7th round. John Dickson chats with Wais Vé Kuba once again to look back at a season that was 10x better for him, finished 4/5 of the races which is an improvement, all of them in the points. Only missed the top 5 on three occasions. Especially the 2nd half of the season where he was consistent in terms of race results. Wais unforunately missed out 3rd by 11 points. I'm not going to spam the description because it's time for the interview.

John Dickson: So Wais, happy 20th birthday on Saturday, you had a very good Feature race out there.
Wais: Well I had to like give it my 110% out there, I know winning the race was going to be tough because Vini was just too strong here again, even if he wanted to calm down cause he won the championship since the end of R17, he's still fast as hell, he's been like that all season, so mighty, so unstoppable, all I needed to do was just to be the best of the rest
J: So comparing this season to last season, what he improved?
W: First of all was the speed because I was averaging 5th place in terms of finishing and qualifying was like 9th-10th, I don't know. I didn't finish many so I had to like put that behind and become the stronger driver I needed to be, I had hopes of winning the championship but Vini was just like, 'No thanks, I'll run away from you guys', that's what makes him so good, he's really too fast for us. Meanwhile for myself, I wasn't too happy with the setup of my car so I had to fight it til the end, I was expecting to struggle but when I saw in the podium room I dominated Staci by 20 seconds, I was like, 'WTF, how did that happen?'
The second part was the consistency because like Wresdan (Jackson Storm's manager) said, I needed to turn down my aggression on track and that kinda worked out this season.
J: So you think you're going to steal his crown next season?
W: He's staying??!! I thought he was going to F2!!!
J: Unlike Vini, you had Hendrix who announced his retirement some point of the season then most of them like the some of the big names (Hargrave, Evans and Hass) are leaving this series, you think you're going to join them?
W: I haven't decided yet, I'll let you know in like a couple of days time.
J: Saying this season was your strongest, what were the races you crucially lost?
W: I think my strong drive at Denver Feature could've been my best but it was a shame I threw it away. And there was another one at Belle Isle Feature too, I was dominating after having won the Sprint then after like 20 laps my gearbox failure these two were strong drives and gone in the bin and they could've been crucial cause I could've fighted for 2nd with Hargrave. The other two times I DNF'd were due to incidents with Hargrave, Watkins Glen Feature I was pushed off by him without any contact. And another one was at Watkins Glen Sprint where my gamble on Slicks didn't pay off and Long Beach where I damaged the car, putting me outside the Top 5 just.
J: So going a little bit personal, two questions:
1. Have you finished your first training programme?
2. How will you prepare yourself for next season?
W: 1. No, not yet. Still working on Charisma and Man Management, maybe a little bit of Maths to help me (lol).
2. Gonna be more fit, eat more healthier, it'll help me staying in races more often (lol) but I'll need to feed my metal mechanical parts too!!
J: I'll leave you, hopefully your S16 will be a good one!
W: Thanks.

I got one question for you guys: Can Kuba show the MRC world what he's really made of?
